Andrew Kehoe places 4th in the 182 lb 3A Division at the NCHSAA State Championship. He had a great year and finished with a 98-22 career record.

Saint Defeats West Iredell and East Lincoln on Senior Night

Saint defeated West Iredell 63-18 and East Lincoln 77-6 to night.  It was a fitting end to Senior Night. Saint is now 35-5 overall and 6-0 in conference action.

Congratulations to William Moore who broke through his 75 Career Wins Milestone. He now has 76 wins.

Saint Pulls Away from Statesville and North Lincoln

In conference action tonight Saint defeated Statesville 78-6 and North Lincoln 56-14.  This increased the Tribes record to 33-4 overall and 4-0 in conference.

The most thrilling match of the night was with Jared Luna at 170. North Lincoln forfeited to William Fincher and sent their wrestler out to take on Jared Luna. The North Lincoln opponent was much taller than Luna so you knew it was going to be a struggle. North Lincoln scored an early takedown in the first period and rode Luna through out the period. The second period looked to be the same with North Lincoln on top. After half of the 2nd period wore down, Jared final found a way to escape and then forced a takedown against North Lincoln.  This made the score 3-2 in Jared's favor going into the 3rd period. North Lincoln took down in the third and immediately score an escape to tied the score.  With 50 seconds left in the 3rd period, Luna final gained a takedown to go up 5-3.  Luna then forced the action scoring a pin with 29 seconds left on the clock. A great effort.

Congratulations to Isaac Burgin. With his win tonight against North Lincoln he has reached his 25th Career Win Milestone.

Saint Rolls Past North Iredell and Hickory

Coach Baker has been nominated and selected into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame for the "Lifetime Service to Wrestling" award for the class of 2023.

He was presented with the letter from Lee Roy Smith, Executive Director of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.  Coach Baker's West Lincoln middle school coach, Butch Ross, and his West Lincoln High School Coach, Wayne Navey, presented and read the letter to those in attendance.

It was a great night to be in Baker Arena. The Tribe swept through North Iredell (63-6) and Hickory (69-6), only giving up 6 points in each match. Tonight's wins pushed the Tribe to a 31-4 overall record and 2-0 conference record.

Saint Rolls to 25-1 Dual Record

The Tribe has had a strong showing during the month of December. All dual score can be seen on the Latest News page under Current Dual Record.  This past weekend the Tribe won 5 straight matches at the Lexington Dual tournament to capture the tournament champion's trophy.

During this run of wins, our wrestlers began moving up on their Career Win Milestones.

Cesar Chavez is closing in on his 125 win milestone.

Andrew Kehoe closing in on his 75 Career Win Milestone.

Will Moore past his 50th win and now going after 75 wins.

Brady Connell just pasted his 50th and moving on to the 75 Milestone.

Will Fincher is just one win away from reaching his 50th Milestone.

Luke Apollonio is two wins away from his 50th Milestone.

Ivan Cortez pasted his 25th and working on 50 Wins.

Logan Laws just past his 25 win milestone.

Kasen Turner, Isaac Burgin, Dylan Herrera, Zamonte Bruen, and Thomas Lipford are closing in on their 25 win Milestone.

Saint Falls to Newton-Conover 22-39

Saint won 6 of the 14 matchups. Saint had 4 decisions, 1 major decision, and 1 pin.  The most significant problem was that we gave up 5 pins which created the points spread. 

Andrew Kehoe pinned for Saint in the 182 lb weight class. Cesar Chavez won a 16-8 major decision. Other decisions were won by Brady Connell, Zamonte Brown, William Fincher, and Kasen Turner.

The Tribe now has a 15-1 dual record. Friday 12-9-2022 the Tribe will wrestle at the Red Devil Duals at Newton-Conover.  We will face off with Grassfield,VA, Chester, SC, Jack Britt, and Avery County.

Note: Senior Night will be on Friday 1-13-2023. It is on the current VARSITY SCHEDULE.

Saint Captures Two Wins at South Caldwell Tri Meet

Saint defeated South Caldwell 78-6 and Ashbrook 70-3. We scored 18 pins, 2 decisions, and 1 major decision during both matches.

The Tribes current record is 15-0.

Congratulations to these wrestlers. Cesar Chavez-Alonzo is now going to his 125 career win milestone. Andrew Kehoe is now moving on to his 75 career win milestone. Will Moore is going on to his 50 career win milestone.

This is the Indian Classic weekend with the 50th Annual Indian Classic Wrestling Tournament. There will be 12 teams in the hunt for the championship. Competing team can be seen on the Indian Classic tab. Friday night will be the 10th Annual JV Indian for all JV Wrestlers.

Competition in the Classic will start at 9:00 a.m. This Saturday.

Saint Wins All Four Matches at the Mallard Creek Turkey Duals.

Saint defeated A. L. Brown, Cox Mill, Mallard Creek and East Gaston. Scores are on the Latest News page under Current Dual Record link.

We are now 13-0.  Next matches are at South Caldwell on Tuesday 11-29-2022, 5:00 p.m. We will wrestle South Caldwell and Ashbrook.

Friday night will be the JV Indian at 5:00 and Saturday will be the 50th Indian Classic at 9:00. We need all our parents involved in concession stand and clean up duties.  This is a big weekend for the entire team.

Saint Defeats Bandys 39-29

It was a classic Catawba County show down between two determined teams tonight at Saint. Bandys, the top ranked 2A wrestling team in the state, against the ever competitive 3A Saint Wrestling Team.

Saint jumped out to a 18-3 lead in the first four matches. Bandys started their comeback which led to a 27-29 lead with 3 matches left to go in the dual meet.  Saint won the last three matches to take a 39-29 win.

What a great win for the Tribe! The Tribe won 7 of the 14 matches. Pinning tonight for the Tribe were Cesar Chavez-Alonzo, Will Moore, and Ivan Cortez-Cruzado.  Dylan Herrera-Luna fought for a 8-6 decision.

People always ask "Why have you stayed this long with the Saint program, now going on 36 years." Because these young men matter.  They have pride in their efforts and for the Saint Wrestling program.  They are part of the on going tradition of Saint Wrestling and they deserve our support.

We travel to Mallard Creek tomorrow to face Mallard Creek, Cox Mill, East Gaston, and A. L. Brown.  Bus leaves at 2:20 p.m.

Saint Wrestling Jumps Off To An 8-0 Record

Saint's first week of wrestling has got off to a strong start.  The week started off with a three win streak at the Saint Quad Meet last Tuesday 11-15-2022.  Saint won over Maiden, Cherryville, and Kings Mt.  Scores can be seen on the Latest News page on the Current Dual Record.

We traveled to Forbush on Saturday 11-19-2022 for the Falcon Duals. We won all five matches over Ashe County, Walkertown, Trinity, East Mecklenburg, and Asheboro.

Monday 11-21-2022 we will host Bandys.  JVs and Varsity will wrestle.  Weigh-in at 4:30 p.m. , JVs wrestle at 5:00 p.m., Varsity match at 6:00 p.m.
