Tribe Takes Seven to the State Championship

This "Rebuilding Year" team proved they were not the "Scrub Team" that everyone was expecting this year from St. Stephens. They lead the school to a 5th straight undefeated conference season, 5th straight Conference Regular Season Championship, and 5th straight Conference Tournament Championship. They were not to be taking lightly as they took 3rd in the 23 school Western Regional. The Consolation Finals Match, in which our heavy weight Stuart Colwell defeated his North Gaston opponent, saved a 1.5 point margin for East Gaston to win the Regional.

There were excellent matches tonight that showed the heart on this team. Stuart Colwell comes back from a deficit of 1-6 and fighting off his back to stay alive. He finishes the match with an overtime take down to win his match. Jonathan Troutman took a 6-0 decision over state ranked Alejandro Uribe in the 130 lb weight class. Derek Crump kept his winning streak alive with a 9-3 win over 11th ranked Nathan Davis.

TRIBE TAKING A GRAB AT RECORD BREAKING 5TH STRAIGHT CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP

Why "REBUILD" when you can just "RELOAD". There has been numerous individuals that have waited their turn to start for the Tribe. When their chance came, they have stepped in to keep the winning tradition alive for the wrestling team.

Major wins over Hickory, Kings Mountain, and Crest have given the Tribe a 3-0 conference record. With two more wins over Burns and RS Central, the Tribe can make an historic 5th straight conference championship run. Their have been two runs of 4 straight titles in the legendary past of St. Stephens High School Wrestling.

Veterians Justin Isaacs, Derek Crump, and Jonathan Troutman have been joined by juniors Steven Esposito and Shane Broyhill in the undefeated conference ranks.

The Tribe faces Burns Tuesday night at home at 6:30. Be there for the final two weeks of conference action and support the Tribe.
